I know everyone enters into contracts for all sorts of things. It’s simply “standard business practice.”
But outside of life and death situations, to me, it seems like if you can’t be held accountable to a verbal agreement, you can’t be trusted. That means your word means nothing.
We create contracts and legalese to absolve ourselves of responsibility should an incident ever occur. But if I were to really do business with someone, I would want to know that they would keep their word, regardless of “witnesses” or “proof. ” Just for the sake of the honor of their word.
They sell it as “savvy legal sense” to get contracts in writing…
But it just feels like extra language to shirk personal responsibility.
How is it that people are so scared of accountability and being held to their own word?
