brand design manager @ a sports franchise

Generally, I’m not really interested in sports. But it’s fascinating to see such a hugely popular industry do the actual work of creating the visuals that everyone understands and relates to: their ✨brand✨.

I was curious how they get results from all their efforts, so I took this role on to learn…

The cool thing about recruitment, is I’m always learning the randomest things, and acquiring interesting inside information.

So anyway, I had to find a brand design manager for this sports team.

Senior Manager, Brand Design (Marketing)”

Job titles have the weirdest word order. No one replies to the question “what do you do?” with:

“Senior Manager… swirls drink …Brand Design.”

Unless they’re unironically playing around as james bond, I guess.

And the “senior” in titles annoys me too. I get that in corporate they need hierarchies and reporting structures etc, but for me it comes down to do you do the job, or do you not? The word senior is only relevant in relation to comparison to others. It’s not really indicative of the work we do when we’re alone.

Levels and labels don’t really make sense when you’re constantly evolving. We’re changing, shifting, learning, and becoming new every day. Titles are merely meant for standardization.

But I digress.
